Have questions about trade licences? We’re here to help.
You will require a builders licence in most states across Australia. This ensures that you comply with regulations and standards. For example, in NSW, builders need a licence to perform any residential building and construction work, including strata, valued at more than $5000 in labour and materials. Holding a building licence also ensures you meet the requirements of any regulating bodies which will avoid you incurring penalties or fines. You can also legally market your services and initiate contracts/tenders, both of which ensure you earn more than unlicensed builders.
To become a licensed builder (or any construction industry), you need to meet the minimum requirements in your state. For example, in NSW, here are the steps to becoming a licensed builder:
Complete a building/construction qualification with PRL Consultants
Undertake construction induction training and obtain a White Card.
