is regarded as a work culturally sensible qualification owing to its enabling skill to develop programming in leisure and health activities. It is most suited for persons already working or intending to work in an aged care, disability services, community agencies, or a residential care context. It focuses upon the use of leisure as a medium for improving emotional, social and physical health of the clients.

Course Overview

  • The course duration may vary from 6 to 24 months, depending on the intensity of studying. Both options; online and on-site study are available.

  • : Another very important aspect of the course is that a minimum of 120 hours of supervised practical placement in a relevant community service or health setting is undertaken in order for students to apply their knowledge in practice

  • The course modules are 17 units of competency, made up of (10) core units and electives (7) which include the following

  • Designing and Implementing Leisure Programs: Creation of specific activites to address, not only physical but also emotional and social needs of the client.

  • Community Engagement: Providing services to clients from various cultures and assuring their engagement in these programs.

  • Health and Safety Management: The process of making sure that all operations involved within an organization are up to the required industry standards and are beneficial to the clients in every way possible.

  • Graduates can pursue the following roles

  • Activities Officer

  • Leisure and Ethics Coordinator

  • Recreational Activities Coordinator

  • Disability Support Worker – Day Care

  • Most of these positions are found in aged care centres, disability support agencies or community care and support programs enabling people to achieve a better quality of life with activities that are purposeful and enjoyable.

  • There are no formal requirements for admission into this qualification. However, one must have a background in any of the community services or health care. Further, there are additional requirements such as a Working with Children Check or a National Police check as a requirement of a given workplace.
