People enrolled in this program learn the much-needed skills to assist individuals with mental conditions with the focus being towards their recovery and understanding the effects of trauma to the individuals.
There are 15 units, out of which 11 units are core and 4 units are electives

Developing recovery-oriented relationships
Performing recovery-oriented mental health practice
Interface with relevant care networks
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
Elective Units include supporting promote independence and wellbeing, workplace stress management, and practices in the profession.
For the practical part, all students completed a minimum of 120 hours of work placement within a clinical practice setting primarily in a mental health service context.
Students upon attaining this qualification should be able to
Help people whenever it is needed on the recovery process
Provide care that is sensitive to the effects of trauma.
Facilitate self-management and self-advocacy with regards to mental health.

Also, this qualification acts as a bridge towards advanced courses in mental health or community services domains thus improving the scope for employment in a diverse field.
