The CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support

is focused on enhancing the knowledge and skill of persons intending to take on higher positions in the disability support field and hence increasing the autonomy, self-sufficiency and social inclusion of persons with disabilities. The course is well suited for people already working in a sector of disability, or seeking to improve their qualifications, skills and career growth in the area.

Course Summary

  • Average completion time is 6-12 months, and this depends on the study mode selected, that is blended learning, full online and in class attendance only

  • Blended learning with work placement, and mixture of several work based and classroom-based training that include lecture and hands on trainings.

  • CHCCCS044 – Assist the person to implement behaviour support strategies developed by others

  • CHCDIS017 – Assist with the process of inclusion and social participation

  • CHCDIS019 – Assist persons with complicated needs to access high level support that is tailored to them

  • CHCMHS001 - Provide support to a person with a mental health problem

  • HLTWHS003 - Implement and monitor procedures relevant to workplace health and safety

  • 3 elective units, with topics of several units selected according to students’ requirements and occupational demands.

  • The completion of this program requires students to undergo a minimum of 100 hours unpaid clinical placement in a sustainable disability support environment. This enables the students to undertake practical activities and hence evaluative approaches in the clinical coursework.

  • The students admitted must have satisfied one of the following

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

  • CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability in addition to the skill set in CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support.

  • Through CHC43121 Certificate IV courses, graduates fit within job titles related to

  • Disability Support Worker

  • Residential Care Officer

  • Disability Liaison Officer

  • Personal Care Worker

  • All these positions often encompass person focused approaches to care, community re integration and or management of disability service teams.
