through RPL is designed to be pursued by any advanced automotive technician who wishes to further his or her diagnostic skills and desires recognition for such skills in the form of a qualification. The qualification embodies the competence to perform diagnostic evaluations and repairs for a wide range of mechanical systems, enabling technicians to take up managerial positions and improve their marketability in the automotive workplace.
The applicant wishing to undertake the RPL process, undertakes a meeting with a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). You’re working and voluntary experience related to automotive mechanical diagnosis, particular actions and relevant competencies will be investigated for purposes of acquiring RPL.
Candidates must compile a sound body of work that shows their strengths in the facets deemed necessary and different appendices that include but are not limited to the following:
Employment Documentation: Job descriptions, contracts, and payslips related to working experience in automotive mechanical diagnosis.
Work Samples: Reports of the diagnostic examinations carried out, completed photographs, technical descriptions containing completed images which showcase the work and techniques employed by the candidate.
Training Certifications: Academic qualifications or courses that were successfully undertaken in fields of automotive diagnostic, mechanical systems, or health and safety in the industry
Repair Records: Well-maintained and concise records of diagnostic procedures and performed repairs on desired vehicle make and model detailing the extent of work done.
Professional References: Supervisors or colleagues who have worked with you and are endorsing your competency and experience in automotive mechanical diagnosis.
Given the nature of the information furnished, practical evaluation in key areas may be required from the candidates, including but not limited to
Mechanical Diagnostics: Diagnosis of mechanical systems and components and identification of problems using various tools and equipment.
Component Inspection and Analysis: Ability to visually inspect and analyse vehicle parts and systems for condition and potential operational capabilities
Troubleshooting Techniques: Employing and applying standard troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and repair mechanical failures promptly.
Repair Recommendations: Evaluating the repairs needed based on the diagnosis and offering adequate repair instructions aimed at a timely turnaround of repair activities.
Safety and Compliance: All possible safety measures and legal restrictions pertaining to automobiles in the context of diagnosis and repairs remain effective
In instances where a skill gap is noted from the assessment, the candidate will have to go through additional training to acquire those specific skills and competences up to the qualification requirements.
Once all assessments and evidence are analysed and practical assessments performed the candidates in this case, will be granted the AUR40220 – Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis. This qualification encapsulates the advances of diagnostics in the automotive industry and improves the holder’s professional value in the industry

There are no formal requirements for admission into this program apart from an interview where applicants are required to list all their previous careers and hold relevant documents - If any knowledge or skill gaps exist, appropriate training will be provided to assist the trainee in attaining the requirements of the qualification and thus enhancing lifelong learning.
